KUCHING, Aug 4: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Hulu Rajang is urging the Sarawak government to build a new bridge to replace the dilapidated Sungai Pesu Jelalong bridge in Tubau, Murum.
Its chairman Abun Sui Anyit in a statement today said it should be built as soon as possible to prevent any untoward accidents.
“I have received complaints from local residents in Jelalong area, especially those who cross the Sungai Pesu Bridge everyday, because this is the only main bridge that crosses the Pesu River and is found to be in very poor shape and dangerous to its users,” he said.
According to Abun, the bridge was built by a logging company about 40 years ago and it was still used as such until the loggers involved were awarded Provisional Leases or State Leases for palm oil cultivation now.
“What’s sad is that, as the main passage area for residents, this bridge must be crossed by residents from the interior of Jelalong because there is no other alternative way to Bintulu and Pekan Sungai Asap Belaga,” he added. — DayakDaily
