Dr Hazland: Early info dissemination necessary for incidents such as recent space debris sighting

Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni

KUCHING, Aug 4: Certain mechanisms are needed to relay early information to concerned parties regarding incidents that occur in national airspace, says Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Dr Hazland, who is Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, opined this is important to enable the information obtained earlier to be disseminated immediately to the public through various media, especially social media.

“This would help them to be prepared and and stay in a safe area,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, commenting on the recent ‘meteoric’ spectacle witnessed by many recently that was confirmed to be debris from the Chinese Long March 5B rocket, Dr Hazland said the incident has caused anxiety among local residents due to the lack of early information regarding the incident.

The Demak Laut assemblyman also pointed out that, although the incident is unavoidable or difficult to control, efforts must be made to prevent it from causing anxiety or probable casualties and damage to property.

“Many felt excited and lucky when they saw the light from the debris because they expected it to be a meteor, but many were worried if the incident could cause a major disaster for the environment and public safety,” he added. — DayakDaily
