KUCHING, July 24: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Datuk Larry Sng opines that Pakatan Harapan (PH) should take Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg seriously if they wish to continue to rule after the next General Election.

He said it is nonsensical for the 10th Malaysian Prime Minister (Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim) to give in to all of Sarawak’s demands and yet fight Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the State election, which he claims they cannot win.

“PH supporters in Sarawak must realise that their political interests are superseded by national interests and it’s best for them to join GPS or other local based parties instead.

“The reality is this government needs GPS more than it needs PH Sarawak,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday (July 23).

Sng was commenting on a report by FMT on July 22, which quoted Abang Johari to have jokingly claimed that Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) “do not exist” in Sarawak thanks to GPS’ dominance in the State.

In the latest episode of Keluar Sekejap podcast, its host and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin asked Abang Johari whether GPS would contest in all the seats in the next Sarawak election to which the GPS chairman replied with a “yes”.

Abang Johari who is the GPS chairman further said the coalition currently holds 80 out of 82 State seats, with DAP’s Chong Chieng Jen (Padungan) and Violet Yong (Pending) being the opposition.

Asked whether this would affect the cooperation GPS has with PH at the federal level, whose parties like DAP and PKR have a presence in Sarawak, Abang Johari stressed that the Federal and State politics are separate matters.

Khairy also asked whether this would mean GPS and PH would work together at the Federal level and clash at the State level during the election, to which Abang Johari replied, “That is if they want to clash.”

Khairy also pointed out that if PH chose to not clash, this would mean the end of its existence in Sarawak.

“They don’t exist now either,” Abang Johari responded. — DayakDaily
