KUCHING, April 25: There are still 57,093 influenza vaccination slots available across 649 health clinics nationwide, particularly for elderly individuals with comorbidities.
In a media release today, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) urged eligible seniors to take advantage of this opportunity before the Senior Citizen Influenza Immunisation Programme concludes in August 2025.
The programme offers free influenza vaccines to senior citizens with at least one comorbid or chronic condition, including diabetes, heart disease, chronic respiratory disease, and high blood pressure.
Launched on Feb 18, 2025, the MOH reported that 59.47 per cent of eligible participants had been vaccinated as of April 20, 2025.
The vaccines are provided at no cost, covering the price of the vaccine, medical equipment, and related health services.
Eligible senior citizens are encouraged to schedule appointments via the MySejahtera app or visit their nearest District Health Office for additional details.
For those without app access, walk-in appointments are available, subject to availability.
The MOH highlighted the vaccine’s crucial role in preventing severe complications and reducing hospital admissions due to influenza, especially among high-risk groups.
Elderly individuals who attend follow-up treatment for chronic conditions are also advised to ask about their eligibility for the free vaccine if they haven’t already received it.
The Ministry reassured the public that participating clinics are fully prepared to implement the immunisation programme, ensuring that seniors are adequately protected ahead of the flu season. — DayakDaily
