KUCHING, Aug 2: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien believes the Barisan Nasional (BN)-Perikatan Nasional (PN) formula could pave the way for the formation of the next federal government, while potentially reducing the role of East Malaysian parties as kingmakers.
The Julau MP, in a Facebook post today, said the recent State election outcomes in Johor and Negeri Sembilan indicated a political trend that could favour a BN-PN cooperation ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16).
“Based on the recent State election results for both Johor and Negeri Sembilan, I believe the BN-PN formula will form the next federal government and possibly win a clean sweep of all the State elections in the Peninsula,” he said.
Larry said BN and PN had collectively won 104 parliamentary seats in the 2022 General Election, leaving them only eight seats short of the 112 seats required to form a simple majority government.
“The magic number to form government is 112. Only eight additional parliamentary seats needed,” he said.
He added that, without taking into account the political alignment of East Malaysian parties from Sabah and Sarawak, he believed the current political trajectory showed that BN-PN could easily secure a simple majority after GE16.
“That would also mean that GPS and GRS will no longer play the role of king maker,” he said, referring to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), whose support was crucial in the formation of the current federal government after GE15.
In the 2022 General Election, no single coalition secured enough parliamentary seats to form a government independently, resulting in negotiations involving multiple political parties, including those from Sabah and Sarawak. — DayakDaily
