KUCHING, July 12: Barisan Nasional (BN) has secured a simple majority in the 16th Johor state election by winning 48 out of 56 seats, with the remaining eight going to Pakatan Harapan (PH).
In a statement issued today, the Election Commission (EC) said voter turnout stood at 68.73 per cent, with 1,874,918 electors comprising early, postal, and ordinary voters casting their ballots.
“Overall, the EC is satisfied with the overall conduct of the 16th Johor State Election on July 11 and that voters were able to carry out their electoral duties. Polling was carried out smoothly without incidents that disrupted the process,” it said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated BN on its victory, urging all parties to move forward and focus on serving the people.
“Congratulations to BN on the mandate given by Johor voters. May this trust be carried out with the utmost responsibility for the benefit of the state and its people.
“The election and the celebration of democracy have now come to an end. It is now time for us to move forward, prioritising service and our responsibility to the people, and working together to build a more prosperous and progressive Johor,” he said.
At the same time, he called on PH candidates to continue serving the people, regardless of the election outcome.
He also reiterated the federal government’s commitment to ensuring that Johor’s development agenda and the well-being of its people continue to be strengthened. — DayakDaily
