KUCHING, Sept 17: Give Sabah and Sarawak their independence if the Perikatan government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is sincere in wanting to restore the rights of the two Borneo states.

In urging this, Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) secretary-general Priscilla Lau said that it has been too long, too late now to make more promises on restoring the rights of Sabah and Sarawak provided under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Many MA63 Committees had been set up to discuss and ‘look into’ this issue since the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government but their discussions were hushed and now Sabahans and Sarawakians are told that those discussions are confidential and not for public knowledge.

“To make more promises and point out obvious wrongs does not help nor advance Sabah and Sarawak,” she said in a statement today in responding to Muhyiddin’s statement pledging commitment to ensure rights of Sabah and Sarawak under MA63 remain protected.

Lau added that Muhyiddin’s statement has no clear solution and instead only created in the people’s heart a great mistrust and disappointment that elected representatives in both Malaysian Parliament and Sarawak Dewan cared so little for Sarawakians and Sabahans.

“They think throwing rotten sweets at the wayside will cure our hunger forever. Sarawak and Sabah have awakened.

“Only when Sabah and Sarawak are truly independent then their international rights and rights provided under MA63 can be aptly and rightly restored to them,” she pointed out.

Lau urged the Muhyiddin to create history and leave a legacy like no other has ever seen before, a legacy bigger than the formation of Malaysia, by completing the process for independence for Sabah and Sarawak by officially declaring Sabah and Sarawak as independent. — DayakDaily
