KUCHING, July 19: A total of 28,127 companies involving 68,669 vehicles have registered under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan as of July 18, following the expansion of the targeted diesel subsidy mechanism to the three regions on July 1.
According to Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, the numbers are part of nationwide statistics, with 172,955 companies involving 464,797 vehicles registered under the SKDS.
“I urge those in East Malaysia who have yet to apply for the SKDS fleet card to do so as soon as possible.
“Apply now and get the fleet card so you can benefit from the subsidised diesel,” he said in a press conference after the SKDS fleet card presentation ceremony at Kampung Patau-Patau 2 in Labuan today.
He also said the ministry, together with the Ministry of Finance (MOF), is reviewing proposals to refine the SKDS based on lessons from its implementation, industry feedback, and operational concerns.
Additionally, engagement with the Sarawak and Sabah governments would continue to ensure that the implementation of the SKDS addresses operational needs on the ground while safeguarding the objectives of targeted subsidies and preventing leakages.
Applications for SKDS in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan opened on May 4, ahead of the implementation of the targeted diesel subsidy mechanism in the three regions.
Meanwhile, he broke down the 28,127 companies involving 68,669 vehicles registered under SKDS in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan to the following sectors:
- Public land transport: 2,116 companies involving 3,433 vehicles
- Land transport for consumer essential goods: 18,770 companies involving 51,679 vehicles
- Company-owned land transport (jeeps and pickup trucks): 7,241 companies involving 13,557
“This shows that the implementation of SKDS in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan continues to record encouraging progress,” he said. — DayakDaily
