KUCHING, Feb 17: A landmark should be built to promote the uniqueness of Salako, Lara and other local ethnicities in Opar, says the constituency’s assemblyman Billy Sujang.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Billy opined that before the landmark is built, Opar district needs to get a ‘new township’ first, including other infrastructures.

“We need a monument or landmark that shows that this is the area of Salako and Lara communities in the ‘new township’ area that we are building.

“In addition to that, there will be other facilities such as recreation centers and cultural centers that show the identity of the communities found in the Lundu district, especially in the Opar area where Bidayuh are the majority,” he told reporters after launching N1 Opar Mini Lab Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) held at Salcra Training Centre in Lundu, today.

Meanwhile, Billy said there is also a need to improve the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex in Biawak.

He pointed out that ICQS in Biawas lacks the capacity to support full enforcement of entry between Indonesia-Malaysia.

“Secondly, there is also a need for a land port in the border area.

“We also want to built a transit area for food storage there before exporting or importing it our country,” he added. — DayakDaily
