KUCHING, Feb 14: A road accident involving a 10-tonne cement-laden lorry left one person dead and another severely injured after the vehicle veered off the road and tipped into a ditch at Jalan Miri-Marudi, Marudi.
According to reports by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a call on the incident at 1.58pm today and dispatched firefighters from the Marudi fire station to the scene.
At the scene, they found that the lorry was carrying a load of cement when it veered off the road, into a ditch and became embedded in the ground.
Two victims were trapped inside the wreckage.
Rescuers used special rescue tools, assisted by an excavator provided by a nearby plantation company, to pull the truck from the ditch, allowing for a safer and more efficient extraction of the victims.
One victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the other was rescued alive but sustained severe injuries.
Both victims were handed over to paramedics from the Ministry of Health.
Following the operation, the fire department personnel secured the area before returning to their station. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident. – DayakDaily
