KUCHING, Feb 14: A 37-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl were tragically killed after a fatal collision between a car and a lorry along Jalan Gedong, Simunjan this afternoon.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the accident involved a Proton Wira Aeroback carrying a family of four and a 10-tonne lorry transporting oil driven by a single individual.

Firefighters received the distress call at 1.26pm today and dispatched teams from the Simunjan and Serian fire stations.

Upon arriving at the scene, they found that the impact of the collision between the two vehicles had ejected three passengers from the car.

Two of the ejected passengers, a six-year-old girl and a 36-year-old woman, were found still conscious but severely injured.

Tragically, an 11-year-old girl, who was also ejected from the vehicle, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 37-year-old man, who remained trapped inside the wreckage, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both deceased victims were declared dead at the scene by paramedics while the two surviving family members were rushed to Hospital Simunjan via ambulance.

The driver of the lorry was reported safe and did not sustain any injuries.

After cleaning up the accident scene and ensuring that the area was safe, the firefighters returned to their stations. – DayakDaily
