KUCHING, June 5:  Will there be a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the upcoming parliamentary sitting slated from July 29 to Aug 1?

On the question, Santubong MP Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s answer was — “no one can tell” as any MP could still give the whole meeting a “political purpose” even though the notice from the Prime Minister’s Office today stated that the special meeting will be centred around the National Recovery Plan and the amendments to the law to allow a hybrid Parliament Meeting to be held.

MPs may have the rights to table any private member motion, to Wan Junaidi, chances for it to be debated and later to vote, would not be high, given that it is only a five-day session.

“MP can give notice but (the motion) can only be debated on after government function is finished for the day.  It (the motion) usually could not reach debating stage, let alone for voting,” said Wan Junaidi in reply to DayakDaily’s WhatsApp message today.

As such, Wan Junaidi who is Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Minister believed that the scenario of no-confidence vote against Muhyiddin would be unlikely to happen.

He said presently, MPs have not been given details with regards to how this Parliamentary sitting would work.

“For now, we rely on the short announcement made by the PM (Prime Minister)’s Office today. We may get some details on the five-day sitting on the Wednesday after the cabinet meeting,” said Wan Junaidi.

On the proceeding of the Parliamentary meeting, the Part Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council member said the prime minister, who is the leader of the House, will determine the date and time of the meeting.

“The agenda is based on the government requirement under the Standing Orders and Rules of Dewan Rakyat. Once the agendas are determined, then the Speaker will cause them to be arranged according to the Order of the Day of Dewan Rakyat. Similarly, the Dewan Negara,” said Wan Junaidi.

He said the Speaker through the Secretary of Dewan Rakyat will issue a notice to all MPs under Rule 9 not less than 28 days prior to the Parliamentary session.  Upon receiving the notice, MPs may put forth any questions which must reach the Parliament secretary 10 days prior to the meeting under Rule 22 of Dewan Rakyat.

“Since there are no details yet I could not explain further than that.  The notice only says the sitting is for the government to explain the recovery plan and it does not say which ministries are going to be asked to give explanations and so on,” said Wan Junaidi.

To him, if the meeting only aims to clarify the government’s National Recovery Plan, then five days would be enough for the House to do so. — DayakDaily
