KUCHING: There will be no separate federal directive on Taska closures in Sarawak when the Air Pollutant Index (IPU) hits 200, as the existing State-level order is already sufficient, says Federal Minister for Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), she said the directive issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) applies to all Taska statewide and is intended to protect children from health risks associated with haze.
“It is not just us, but it is a comprehensive directive.
“We do not need to issue another directive as people may become confused. The directive for the State is sufficient,” she told reporters after officiating the Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme organised by the Santubong Parliamentary constituency here today.
Nancy said the State-level directive meant Taska operators did not need to wait for a separate instruction from her ministry before closing when the IPU reached 200.
She added that arrangements for working parents following the closure of Taska would have to be coordinated in accordance with directives issued by the Sarawak Government.
The directive is intended as a precautionary measure to minimise children’s exposure to haze when air pollution reaches the specified threshold. — DayakDaily
