KUCHING, Aug 22: Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, concluded his three-day official visit to Sarawak today after returning to Pahang from Kuching International Airport, following a visit that included the opening of a mosque bearing his name in Telok Melano.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the Sultan’s visit which began on Thursday (Aug 20), also included a State dinner with Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
On Friday, he performed Friday prayers with the local community before officiating the Masjid Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in Telok Melano.
The mosque holds particular significance for the Sultan, who officiated its groundbreaking ceremony on Sept 13, 2023, while serving as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
During the ceremony, he also planted a Bauhinia purpurea sapling within the mosque compound.
The Sultan later spent time at Telok Melano Beach and stopped at the Kilometre 0.00 marker of the Pan Borneo Highway for a photo.
His departure from Kuching International Airport at about 10am on Saturday was accompanied by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Regional Development Agencies, Kuching South City Council and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, along with other dignitaries. — DayakDaily
