KUCHING, Nov 1: Correspondence in English and other languages from the Sarawak government will be accepted and handled accordingly by the federal government.

Sarawak Federal Secretary Datuk Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan gave this assurance as the federal government recognised Sarawak’s constitutional rights pertaining to the use of both English and Bahasa Malaysia as official languages.

“There is no problem for the Sarawak government to send letters or official communication in English to the federal government, which would still be handled effectively by the relevant departments.

“We will accept if the correspondence is written in English and if it is other languages, we will still try to handle it by using services of a translator,” he said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

Ahmad Nadzri highlighted this to the press after launching Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak’s disaster preparedness for the Northeast Monsoon season at the Bomba Sarawak headquarters here today.

Commenting on Bomba Sarawak’s readiness for the forthcoming monsoon season, he affirmed their comprehensive readiness to tackle potential disasters such as floods, landslides and road transport disruptions.

For the record, Bomba Sarawak is equipped with 48 marine utilities, 87 4WD vehicles, 16 trucks and a helicopter to fortify their preparedness for the season.
