KUCHING, June 4: New unlicensed or temporary petty traders and hawkers are now eligible to apply for permits for the RM1,500 special grants under the Sarawak government’s sixth Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS 6.0) from June 1 to 30.

For existing petty traders and hawkers who are already licensed, Sarawak Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) said they need not re-apply for the permits, but are required to update their SarawakPay account status as the payments will be channeled through the mobile application.

It said eligible applicants including operators of food stalls, lock up shops, markets, village or isolated shops, barber or hair saloons and individual owners of canteens may submit their applications through the online platform (https://community-service.sarawak.gov.my) or by manual application at the Local Authority.

The validity of the permit shall be from June to November, 2021 and the permit fee of RM30 per month during this period shall be waived.

For additional criteria to qualify for the special grants, the Ministry said traders must be a Sarawakian residing and trading in Sarawak and aged 18 years old and above.

“Applicant must be a genuine trader that has been personally trading physically such as operating a stall, kiosk and roadside stalls before June 1, 2021.

“Stalls trading inside coffee shops are eligible to be registered but with the necessary documentation of personally trading. Online business is not included,” it said in a statement today.

It added that the Council has the right not to issue or retract such permits in the case that false, untruthful or inaccurate information were found provided by the applicants.

Once the permits are issued, new petty traders and hawkers including existing ones will be paid the amount of RM1,500 in two phases, with the first RM750 in July and the second RM750 in December, 2021. — DayakDaily
