29,752 recipients in Sibu Division to receive food basket from this week

SIBU, June 4: Those selected for the food basket will start receiving it this week.

Sibu Resident Wong Hee Sieng said in Sibu Division there are a total of 29,752 recipients with 18,935 of them are from here, 7,246 Ā in Kanowit and 3,571 in Selangau.

“Those from Sibu district Ā will receive the item at a designated collection centre and they will be informed in due time. As for those in Kanowit and Selangau, they will have to contact their respective longhouse chief,” he said.


On the criteria for the food aid, he said it is for daily wage individuals or those monthly earners who have lost their job and longhouse households whose longhouse is not under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

“Individuals who are receiving monthly welfare aid are not qualified and so are individuals undergoing home quarantine but have received food aid from the Welfare Department,” he said.

The food basket was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on May 28 when he unveiled the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 6.0 totalling RM1.4 billion to benefit Sarawakians of various sectors through 15 measures.

BKSS 6.0 is for those affected during the Movement Control Order (MCO) from May 29 to June 14.

The Sarawak government is spending RM25.5 million for the food aid. Each of the 82 state constituencies is allocated RM250,000 for Ā the food basket which is to be managed by the Sarawak government agencies. ā€” DayakDaily
