New Jan Yong Cluster declared in Kapit after 14 Covid-19 cases recorded overnight

KUCHING, Feb 17: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today declared a new Covid-19 cluster, dubbed the Jan Yong Cluster, in Kapit after 14 positive cases were detected in a longhouse.

With this, the total number of active clusters in Sarawak has risen to 22.

SDMC in a statement today revealed that the Jan Yong Cluster involved a longhouse located at Sungai Yong in Kapit District.

The index case is Case 7,043 who is a 21-year-old woman whose status was detected through active case detection (ACD) by the Kapit Health Division.

The case has a travel history to the high-risk Covid-19 area of Sibu.

Subsequent contact tracing and screening yielded 14 more cases among the residents at the longhouse.

As of today as at 12pm, 46 individuals have been screened whereby 15 cases including the index case have tested positive while three are awaiting lab test results.

All the Covid-19 patients are currently being isolated and treated at the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Kapit.

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded three Covid-19 fatalities and 200 new cases today with Sibu registering the highest number of cases at 102, Kapit (53), Kuching (16), Bintulu (13), Dalat (7), Miri (3), Lundu (3), and one each in Samarahan, Beluru and Belaga.

This thus pushed the state’s tally of positive cases to 7,225 and death toll to 65. — DayakDaily
