43 Covid-19 infections in last two weeks pushes Kuching to Red Zone

KUCHING, Feb 17: The Kuching district has returned to be a red zone of Covid-19 after reporting a total of 43 cases in the past fortnight.

The city last became a red zone of Covid-19 on Jan 10 after reported a total of 41 cases over a period of 14 days.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today in a press statement said Kuching registered 16 new cases of Covid-19.

Out of the 16 cases, 12 cases were identified from the Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster.

There were two cases detected from the screening of individuals at the health clinic in the city, one case from the Univista Cluster in Samarahan and one case which involved screening from a symptomatic individual.

Yesterday, Kuching turned into an orange zone of Covid-19 with a total of 28 cases of local infections in the past two weeks.

In the meantime, the classification of other districts in Sarawak remained the same.

There are 11 districts which are classified as red zones of Covid-19.

The Samarahan, Julau, Subis, Beluru, Kapit, Song, Dalat, Bintulu, Kanowit, Miri and Sibu remained as red zones with a total of 2,161 cases of new infections reported in the past fortnight.

There are two districts namely Lundu and Sri Aman which stayed as orange zone of Covid-19 with a total of 60 cases of local transmission in the past 14 days.

The Bau, Matu, Selangau, Betong, Saratok, Sarikei, Sebauh, Lawas, Bukit Mabong, Tatau, Pakan, Serian, Belaga and Meradong remained as yellow zones of Covid-19 with a cumulative 93 cases of local infections in the past two weeks.

There are 12 districts which are categorised as green zone with zero cases of Covid-19.

They are Daro, Simunjan, Lubok Antu, Telang Usan, Asajaya, Limbang, Tanjung Manis, Tebedu, Mukah, Pusa, Kabong and Marudi. —DayakDaily
