KUCHING, Feb 12: The site to develop a new housing area between Sungai Maong and Segedup for the Satok constituency has been identified.

Satok assemblyman Dato Ibrahim Baki said Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to visit the site on Feb 22.

“The land (site) has been identified in Sungai Maong and Segedup for village expansion (of Satok).

“The first phase will involve about 300 extended families,” he told reporters during the closing ceremony for a Mutiara Mortgage & Credit assistance talk at SK Rakyat here today.

He also disclosed that with the establishment of the Tan Sri Sulaiman Daud Bridge crossing the Sarawak River connecting Stapok, Batu Kawah and E-Mart, Matang, the Sarawak government is able to open up new area on the said government land.

“So that land, we will develop infrastructure for that land and we will do a lot to be distributed (sic) to those extended families, B40 in particular, for them to stay,” he added.

In Jan 30 last year, Abang Johari announced that the Sarawak government will develop a new housing area between Segedup and Sungai Maong.

This matter was brought up by Ibrahim during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on May 19, when he called on the government to expedite the housing projects.

The proposal was to build new homes to relocate extended families who have been residing together in a single house.

It is also worth noting that these groups are centred in Satok area especially within the Malay villages.

The issue of spreading out the growing population was also not an easy task due to the lack of land in Satok area to open up as new housing areas.

At the same time, Ibrahim has urged Satok residents to apply for the affordable housing schemes offered by Mutiara Mortgage & Credit Sdn Bhd.

The talk given by Mutiara Mortgage official today was among the efforts to create public awareness on the schemes available under Mutiara Mortgage, which Ibrahim mentioned, would go to waste if the people were not aware of them.

For the record, the Sarawak government has introduced Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) where first-time home owners in B40 and M40 groups can receive assistance up to RM10,000 for housing deposit payments which would be managed by Mutiara Mortgage.

There is also Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS) where the scheme offers assistance of RM200 per month for a maximum of 36 months or three years.

For individuals who want to build a house on land they own, Mutiara Mortgage has introduced the Mutiara Spectra Home (RSM) programme where the cost of building a house will be funded by the institution through the Mutiara Dream Home Financing Scheme (MDHFS).

The design will be based on the standard blueprint set with construction cost estimated to range from RM70,000 to RM160,000. ā€• DayakDaily
