KUCHING, July 18: With Sarawak Day just days away, some 2,500 Sarawak flags are set to fly at homes across Satok, carrying a message of patriotism, unity and pride in the State’s journey.
According to a report by TVS, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the initiative aims to strengthen Sarawakians’ love for the State while encouraging reflection on its history, struggles and achievements.
“In addition to distributing about 2,500 Ibu Pertiwi flags, we also organised several sporting activities, including an aerobics session and a 5.2-kilometre cycling event, which attracted more than 100 participants.
“Programmes like this are beneficial as they bring the community together and serve as a reminder of the significance of Sarawak Day.
“At the same time, they strengthen the bond between leaders and the people, particularly in Satok,” he told reporters during the Ibu Pertiwi (Sarawak Flag) Waving Programme at the Satok Sports Complex today.
Ibrahim, who is also Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Sarawak Energy and PETROS), said July 22 represents a significant milestone in Sarawak’s history as the day the region attained self-governance before becoming part of Malaysia.
He added that the programme also pays tribute to the sacrifices of past leaders, including Rosli Dhoby, as well as those involved in the establishment of the Cobbold Commission and the formation of Malaysia.
During the event, Ibrahim handed over the Sarawak flags to community leaders for distribution and installation at homes throughout Satok.
The theme for Sarawak Day 2026 is “Sarawak Maju Makmur, Segulai Sejalai”.
This year’s Sarawak Day celebrations will be held in Sibu from July 20 to 22, with programmes centred on unity and appreciation of Sarawak’s rich history and heritage. — DayakDaily
