KUCHING, Dec 30: The new Sarawak Cabinet’s performance and effectiveness will be evaluated and analysed by the first quarter of 2022, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
In announcing the new Cabinet line-up today, Abang Johari said this approach will provide a prognosis from which necessary actions and steps will be developed for the coming years to improve effective service outcome.
“The foundation of this new Cabinet line-up is based on the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 that will develop the State into a high income economy by the year 2030.
“It is my conviction that the new Cabinet line-up is a functional cabinet, equipped with competent, people-driven, transparent and with integrity, focused on delivering effective services, while maintaining a solid system,” Abang Johari said at a press conference in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
He gave assurance that the government remained committed to implementing all 34 points pledged in the 12th Sarawak Election Manifesto for the next five years, emphasising on the socio-economic development and wellbeing of the people in Sarawak.
With his experienced Cabinet members, Abang Johari said the government will mentor and nurture young Sarawakian leaders in administration and policy formulation.
“We are renewing the line-up to bring in fresh blood and more importantly, the composition of the Cabinet well represents the State to deliver the best and most efficient level of service to the people.
“We will execute policy towards the digital era, sustainable development, decarbonisation and the new economy to ensure economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability. All these, will be driven by data and innovation,” Abang Johari added.
Thanking all Sarawakians for giving a strong mandate to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to form the government of the day, he assured them that his team will continue to strengthen Sarawak’s constitutional status as a regional partner in the Federation of Malaysia, in accordance with the amendment of Article 1(2) and Article 160(2) of the Federal Constitution with reference to Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and its annexures.
With MA63, Abang Johari said the basic reference of the rights of the Borneo territories of Sarawak and Sabah is entrenched in the Federal Constitution.
The new Cabinet line-up comprises 10 ministers and 26 assistant ministers, with many retaining their portfolios from the previous administration.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan were reappointed Deputy Chief Ministers with Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian joing them.
