KUCHING, Oct 16: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) prioritises political stability in Malaysia first and not seeking the deputy prime minister (DPM) post in the next federal government, says caretaker Minster of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Nancy Shukri.
Responding to a reporter’s query, she said the DPM post is not a priority for GPS at the moment as the coalition aims to stabilise the nation’s political landscape first and foremost post-GE15 (15th General Election).
“It is not to say that the DPM post is not important but that matter can be discussed later.
“If we have strong support from the people and win a lot of votes, we will have a voice big enough to propose to the federal government on how we can work together to strengthen Malaysia with the support from Sarawak,” she said during the Craft Promotion Programme closing ceremony in conjunction with Buy Malaysian Products Campaign held in Kuala Lumpur today.
At the same time, Nancy who won the Batang Sadong seat in GE14, explained that GPS is an independent coalition from Sarawak which does not depend on any other political party in the peninsula.
“After GE15, we will see which peninsula coalition (to work with) to guarantee political stability of the nation.
“We have learnt from the past and we do not want to repeat it,” she added. — DayakDaily
