KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will only side with parties that can ensure political stability at the federal level, says its secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Nanta, who is also caretaker Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, said GPS has been abiding by the principle only to support a stable government that can protect its people and bring about development.

“We in GPS only want a stable federal government because we understand that the federal government must be stable for the economy to move forward.

“Not to mention that we have just managed to rid ourselves of problems due to Covid-19. So the focus should be on the people, the economy, and the nation.

“So, on behalf of GPS, I can say that we will work with whichever party (or coalition) that can form a stable government with the people and nation as its priorities,” said the Kapit incumbent.

Meanwhile, caretaker Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, who is also (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) PBB Women vice-chief, said GPS is an independent party in Sarawak.

She said that GPS does not need to depend on or rely on other political parties, echoing Nanta’s statement.

“We have learned from the past. We don’t want the same thing to happen again,” said Nancy, who is also Batang Sadong incumbent.

The two incumbents were answering questions by reporters who inquired whether GPS’ collaboration with any coalitions would be discussed during the PBB meeting on Tuesday (Oct 18), especially with the 15th General Election (GE15) around the corner.
