Nadrah Saufi first Sarawakian gamer to win gold at Commonwealth Esports Championships 2022

KUCHING, Aug 8: Nadrah “Nada” Saufi from Sibu is the first Sarawakian gamer to win a gold medal in Dota 2 Women’s Division at the inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championships (CEC) 2022 in Birmingham.

Nadrah was part of the Grills Gaming eSports team alongside Stephanie “Aurora” Lim (captain), Wong “HG” Wei Sian, Bette “iStarx” Chia and Tan “Shizuma” Lyn Xhin which represented Malaysia.

The team defeated the England team comprising Gimmick, Karenlyl, Bellemiku, Ruby and Always-Changing with a score of 2:0 and thus, made history as the first gold medalists of CEC Dota 2 Women on Saturday (Aug 6).


England took the silver medal while Singapore took bronze after beating Australia earlier.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has also congratulated Nadrah for her achievement.

Organised by the Commonwealth Games Federation and Global Esports Federation to take place alongside the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Aug 6 and 7, there were six eSports events at the CEC 2022, namely Dota 2 Open, Dota 2 Women, eFootball Open, eFootball Women, Rocket League Open and Rocket League Women.

The Malaysian contingent, led by Sarawak Esports Association (SESA) president Afiq Fadhli Narawi, participated in three events, namely Dota 2 Open, Dota 2 Women and eFootball Open, of which they swept clean with all-gold.

For the record, Malaysia’s Mohamad “Haikal” Md Noh won gold for eFootball Open after defeating Scotland’s Gary “Big Stuff” McInnes, winning two games to secure the victory in the best-of-three format on Saturday (Aug 6).

Wales’s Cerith Dennis bagged bronze after beating Gilbraltar.

Meanwhile, on Sunday (Aug 7), Malaysia’s Dota 2 Open team represented by William “MangO” Yeoh, Denise “Wonder’boy” Danial Abdullah, Chung “Ws`” Wei Shen, Ahmad “Ahyad” Ayhad Husam, Pang “ponyo” Sze Xuan, and Yong “LOyd” Bing Jie, won gold after defeating the England team.
