MPKS chairman: Reporting crimes not enough; public must become police’s eyes, ears

Dato Peter Minos

KUCHING, May 14: Lodging reports are not enough as the public must be proactive in becoming the eyes and ears of the police, says Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos.

He said frequent robberies could create fear in society, especially in those who live in isolated places and those who cannot afford iron gates and grills.

“Our best friends (to fight) against criminals and their cahoots are the police, but the police cannot do it alone.

“We must help them (fight) against criminals as their ‘eyes and ears’. The attitude of making police reports when crimes have been committed is not enough. We must be more proactive than that,” he said in a statement today.

Minos also opined that Langkawi is the safest place in Malaysia, where its people do not need to lock their cars and houses.

“I feel safe when visiting Langkawi. Being an island, it is difficult for criminals to hide or escape or do their dirty work.

“Whatever the police do in preventing and curbing or eradicating crimes, we give our fullest support. (This is) a must. Police success is our society’s success,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
