Motorcyclist killed in collision with 4WD in Meradong

KUCHING, July 19: A 30-year-old man was killed in an accident that involved a motorcycle and a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle at Batu 8, Jalan Kelupu in Meradong today.

In a statement, the Meradong District Police Headquarters (IPD) said the victim, a 30-year-old male motorcyclist identified as Mohammad Lukman Salleh from Rumah Rabaie, Kampung Darul Falah, Bintangor, was pronounced dead at the scene by an officer from the Bintangor Health Clinic who attended the incident.

Meanwhile, the 35-year-old 4WD driver and two passengers, aged 35 and 12, were not injured.

The victim’s body was subsequently transported by officers from the Meradong District Police Headquarters to Sarikei Hospital for documentation and a post-mortem examination.

Preliminary police investigations found that the 2pm accident was believed to have occurred when the victim, who was riding his motorcycle from Sibu towards Bintangor, lost control of his vehicle before veering into the opposite lane. The 4WD driver, who was travelling from Bintangor towards Sibu, was unable to avoid the collision and struck the front of the motorcycle.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
