BEKENU, Oct 19: One man was killed while another sustained injuries following an accident involving a motorcycle on Jalan Bekenu near Kampung Seburau here at 1.20am today.
In a statement, Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that a 21-year-old man was riding the motorcycle with a 30-year-old man as the pillion rider. Both are locals.
“They were travelling from Bekenu town towards Kampung Subak along Jalan Bekenu when the motorcycle is believed to have gone out of control, veered into the opposite lane, and skidded onto the roadside on the right.
“The rider died at the Tun Haji Openg Bekenu Health Clinic, while the pillion rider sustained injuries to the back of his body,” he said.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
