KUCHING, April 3: It is work as usual for the doctors or medical officers in Sarawak amid the call to stage a nationwide strike among medical practitioners.

A movement group known as “Mogok Doktor Malaysia” has called all doctors and medical practitioners to take leave or mass resign as a sign of protest against the Health Ministry from April 3 (today) to 5 (Wednesday).

The attempt seemed futile for the first day in Sarawak as no doctors or medical officers responded.

According to a reliable source within the Public Health, Housing and Local Government Ministry, there has been no sign of a strike among doctors in Sarawak.

“So far, today, no mogok (strike). Hope tomorrow also the same,” said the source.

A group of doctors related to a social media page called “Mogok Doktor Malaysia (Malaysian Doctors Strike) have threatened mass resignation and a nationwide strike beginning today to Wednesday (April 3 to 5).

Last Wednesday, it was reported that the organisers of the strike told doctors to take emergency or medical leave for three days as a sign of protest.

They declared that an estimated 8,000 out of some 20,000 contract medical officers (MOs) would participate in the strike or mass resignation event.

Their demands included absorbing all contract MOs into permanent positions without conditions, providing basic salary increments, higher on-call rates, and resolution to specialist shortages, MOs, and house officers, among others. — DayakDaily
