KABONG, June 23: A man who was reported missing after leaving for an oil palm plantation in Kampung Empayang here on June 12 was found safe last night (June 22), bringing the search and rescue (SAR) operation to an end.
According to Saratok District Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, the victim, 51-year-old Jobeni Akau, was found walking near the junction to Rumah Panjang Jimbun, Sungai Sawa Ibus, at 9pm.
“Following his discovery, the SAR operation was officially called off at 10.30pm, and the case was considered resolved,” he said in a statement, as reported by TVS.
He added that the victim has a mental health condition which was left untreated, and this was not the first such incident, as the victim had previously left home on several occasions and returned on his own after about five days.
Based on the report lodged by the victim’s younger brother, the victim left home on June 12 to go to the oil palm plantation in Empayang.
The following day (June 13), when he went to deliver food to the victim, he discovered that the food delivered the previous day had not been touched or eaten, prompting him to lodge a report. — DayakDaily
