KUCHING, April 9: Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) will look into identifying camping sites across the Sarawak to promote caravan or motorhome tourism.

Its minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the idea could be realised upon the completion of Pan Borneo Highway roads.

“I foresee that with the Pan Borneo Highway which will be ready soon, we (MTCP) can work together with local councils to identify certain sites in every division or district to promote the culture of the Western countries namely caravan or motorhome.

“If we have a motorhome or caravan, I believe it is most suitable for ‘glamping’ (glamorous camping) especially when in a convoy, not all can fit in one motorhome or caravan so we may have to opt to camp outside.

“Camping activities can more or less strengthen family bonding and foster better ties within the community,” he said during the ‘Juh Berambeh Sungkei’ programme at Padang Merdeka here today.

The event was co-organised by Persatuan Kebajikan Mahabbah Kuching and Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED) in collaboration with Borneo Glamping and Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Satok branch.

The event saw many locals bringing their own picnic mats and food to sungkei (break fast) together.

At the same time, Abdul Karim who is also MYSED Minister presented aid to 100 asnaf (less fortunate) and distributed bubur lambuk to members of the public at the event. — DayakDaily
