KUCHING, April 27: KUCHING, April 27: Minister for National Unity (KPN) Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has expressed his hope that the Jejak Harmoni programme involving religious leaders and believers in houses of worship across the country will not be criticised or politicised.

According to a report from TV Sarawak (TVS), Aaron clarified that the programme aims to celebrate the spirit of togetherness and unity among Malaysia’s diverse community, which comprises various races, customs, cultures, and religious beliefs.

He mentioned that the organisation of the programme was agreed upon during the Inter-Religious Harmony Committee Meeting chaired by him and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar on Oct 28 last year.

“We understand that in some states, it may be a sensitive matter because anything related to religion falls under state jurisdiction, but not all (states) have such restrictions.

“We have already held it in Labuan and Perlis and the response was lively, so I hope it is not politicised because it is a series of programmes that will be held until November involving several more states with the opening tomorrow at Brickfields,” he said.

Aaron said the Jejak Harmoni programme is part of an activity under the MADANI Harmony Initiative which is carried out either on foot (Harmoni Walk), riding a bicycle or riding a vehicle (Harmoni Ride).

He also said the purpose is to provide the community with an understanding of various religious and cultural beliefs that need to be respected and accepted, especially with the existence of various 3R issues (religion, king, race) recently.

“Through this programme, we emphasise and use the concept of understanding, respecting and accepting a religion that is practiced because we are in a diversity system,” he added. — DayakDaily
