Mechanic jailed 5 years for taking drugs to focus at work

KUCHING, Jan 28: The Sessions Court here has sentenced a mechanic to five years in jail and one stroke of the cane for taking drugs for the reason to stay focused during work at night.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39C(1) of the same Act.


Sessions Court Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman sentenced the accused to five years in jail and with a stroke of the cane.

He was found administering Amphetamine and Methamphetamine, at Padawan police district Narcotic division office, at about 10.18am on Dec 8, 2021.

He is also a habitual offender with two past records of administering dangerous drugs.

The accused in his mitigation said he took drugs to focus on his job while repairing cars at night to earn to provide for his family comprising an old-aged mother, a wife and children.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutalib Mohamad Shariff prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — Dayakdaily
