KUCHING, Sept 30: Three people were arrested and 164.39 grammes of suspected methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM8,650, were seized in two separate drug raids in Kuching between Sept 26 and 28.
In a statement on Tuesday (Sept 29), Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the first operation on Sept 26 saw police arrest a 56-year-old local man and seize 157.20 grammes of suspected methamphetamine worth about RM7,860.
He said the suspect was arrested by a team from the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) at about 5.45pm following a search near Lorong Satok and subsequently at his house in Chong Ling Park.
“An initial urine screening test on the suspect was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said, adding that police check also found the man had five previous criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with the suspect remanded for four days from Sept 27 to 30 to assist investigations.
In a separate operation on Sept 28, police arrested a 45-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman at a house in Kampung Semerah Padi at about 1.40pm.
“Police seized 7.19 grammes of suspected methamphetamine worth an estimated RM790,” he said.
Both suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine in initial urine screening tests.
Police checks found that the male suspect had six previous criminal records, while the female suspect had seven.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with both suspects remanded for four days from Sept 30 to Oct 3 to assist investigations.
Alexson said the arrests and seizures were the result of continuous intelligence-gathering efforts and cooperation from the public.
