KUCHING, Oct 7: A 31-year-old kitchen assistant was jailed for seven years and ordered to be caned five times by the Sessions Court today after pleading guilty to raping his 15-year-old girlfriend, who later became pregnant.
The accused admitted to the offence when a single charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code was read before Judge Musli Abdul Hamid.
The court heard that he raped the teenager at a house along Jalan Desa Wira at about 11pm in mid-February this year.
The offence came to light on Sept 28 when a medical officer examining the teenager discovered that she was 26 weeks pregnant and unmarried.
The officer then lodged a police report, leading to the accused’s arrest at a rented room in 3rd Mile at about noon on Sept 30.
Police investigations found that the accused and the teenager were in a relationship, and he admitted to having sexual intercourse with her in mid-February.
A subsequent medical examination confirmed that the teenager was 26 weeks and four days pregnant, with her baby due on Feb 3, 2027.
Section 376(1) of the Penal Code provides for up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
