MCO: 67 arrested over 24-hour period

KUCHING, March 30: A total of 67 people who defied the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Sarawak have been arrested by the police over a 24-hour period.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said as at 8am today, the police have arrested 65 men and two women.

Sibu recorded the highest, with 14 arrests, followed by Miri (12), Kota Samarahan (12), Bintulu (7), Padawan (6), Kuching (5), Lawas (4), Saratok (3), Betong (2), Serian (1) and Marudi (1).

“These people were arrested after failing to justify the reasons why they were out on the road or in public places. They are investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Regulation 7 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in the Infected Areas) 2020,” Aidi said.

If found guilty, offenders face up to two years in prison and a fine of RM10,000 or both.

All of them were later released under police bail. — DayakDaily
