MIRI, April 6 : The Miri City Council (MCC) will be carrying out a massive clean-up drive to rid all overgrown, rubbish and encroachments including roadside farm plots and chickens rearing on public green spaces along Lorong 3 and 4 Quadruplex Permyjaya here.

MCC Mayor Adam Yii said advance notices have been issued to inform residents that the cleaning up operation will take place after seven days of the notice.

“The cleaning up will give way for beautification works to be done in order to create a cleaner, healthier and tidier living environment for the housing area.

“The cleaning up is necessary to prevent public green spaces from becoming potential dengue mosquito breeding sites as this area is one of the hot spots in previous years,” he told reporters after visiting the housing area today.

Yii, who is also Pujut assemblyman, added that some residents have complained to the Council about the disorganised, untidy and dirty conditions along the two lanes with about 2,000 flat units with 13,000 inhabitants.

The clean-up operation, he revealed, will involve the removal of all roadside plants, illegal structures, clearing any ponding as well as trimming trees at a nearby playground.

“Besides, we also wanted to tackle several other issues including rearing chickens within these areas to prevent risks to health and to protect residents from nuisances.

“We have been planning to clean up the area and that is why we are here today to check the conditions in Lorong 3 and 4 so that we can discuss the implementation of the cleaning up works,” he said.— DayakDaily
