KUCHING, March 5: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will propose the increase of fines to drivers of heavy load vehicles spilling rubble or dirt on roads, as well as their companies.

MBKS mayor Wee Hong Seng said the proposed increased fines to the Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government would be RM750 for each individual or driver and RM1,000 for the company.

According to the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By-laws, 1999 By-law 20(10), the current fines are set at RM100 and RM400 for each individual and company, respectively.

He viewed the amount enforced since 1999 as too lenient, thus not taken seriously.

“At the same time, I also hope citizens can report to us (MBKS) if they have witnessed any lorries or trucks spilling debris onto roads or vehicles exceeding the legal weight limits.

“Take pictures and send them to us. Then, we will take necessary action,” said Wee during his weekly Facebook live session today.

He emphasised that all citizens are responsible for protecting Kuching City and keeping it clean. — DayakDaily
