Sarawak’s daily Covid-19 cases climb to 1,455 with 1 death in Kapit

KUCHING, March 5: Sarawak’s daily Covid-19 cases continue to climb to 1,455 today with four districts namely Kuching, Miri, Sibu and Bintulu recording triple-digit cases, while one fatality was reported in Kapit.

The latest figures thus pushed the overall State Covid-19 tally to 266,411 and death toll to 1,630.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its latest update on the Covid-19 situation in the State, reported that Kuching still has the highest number of infections with 479 cases, followed by Miri (254), Sibu (213), and Bintulu (117).


Twelve districts saw double digit cases namely Serian (55), Sri Aman (44), Mukah (36), Sarikei (34), Limbang (18), Kanowit (16), Bau and Tanjung Manis (13 each), Matu (10), while Kapit and Saratok have 10 each.

A total of 22 districts registered single digit cases – Pusa and Daro (7 each); Betong, Pakan and Marudi (6 each); Lawas and Meradong (5 each); Lubok Antu, Tatau, Simunjan, Selangau and Subis (4 each); Dalat and Sebauh (3 each); Kabong, Asajaya, Song and Telang Usan (2 each); while Lundu, Tebedu, Bukit Mabong and Belaga has one case each.

Of the new cases, there are seven in severe condition with three under Category 3 with pneumonia, two under Category 4 with pneumonia and requiring oxygen therapy, and two under Category 5 with pneumonia and requiring ventilator support.

There are 884 cases under Category 2 with mild symptoms and 564 cases under Category 1 with no symptoms.

As for the sole Covid-19 death, it involved a 60-year-old woman with morbidities of hypertension and chronic kidney disease who passed away at Kapit Hospital on March 3.

Currently, there are four active clusters in Sarawak which did not register an increase in cases.

Meanwhile, the police had issued eight compounds in Kuching in the past 24 hours for various violations of standard operating procedures (SOP).
