KUCHING, Aug 14: The mobile vaccination programme which was carried out with a bus and initiated by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has successfully vaccinated a total of 672 individuals to date.

MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said in the first week since its launch at Bintawa Market on Aug 7, the number of individuals coming forward to get their vaccine shots have been increasing.

He said the mobile vaccination recorded 120 individuals inoculated at Bintawa Market, 60 at Puchong Market, 148 at Sungai Apong Basketball Court, and 344 today at Kenyalang Park.

“The programme at Kenyalang Park this morning broke the record with 344 individuals. I think the figures are encouraging and next week, we will continue to do the same.

“We will continue to look for suitable locations where people can reach out to us easily, such as in parks and markets,” he said during the Facebook live session today.

Meanwhile, State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said he was happy to see many coming forward to get vaccinated, but the Council will have to look into why some have still not received a single dose of the vaccines.

“I was very surprised wondering why there are so many who have not been vaccinated, because now all vaccination centres are accepting walk-ins, so why are they still so many?

“It’s best if the Council can find out why and if necessary, we will have to do the same thing at more locations such as the Stutong Community Market or any other markets,” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing, said the aim of such initiatives is so that no one in Sarawak is left out.

However, he said, the people’s cooperation is needed as well, as vaccines are waiting on people now in the State, instead of the other way around like in Peninsular Malaysia.

“So, please don’t waste the opportunity. We’re lucky that in Sarawak there are enough vaccines waiting (to be distributed),” he added. ā€” DayakDaily
