KUCHING, Sept 2: Staggering polling schedules and increasing the number of polling stations could be the solution to holding the 12th Sarawak State Election (PRN12) during the pandemic.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing opined these measures could prevent congestion on polling day.

“This is nothing new. The Election Commission (EC) has done this before in past elections.

“The question is, does EC have the will to try this mode of voting again in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic?” he said in a statement today.

Voicing his belief that an improvised way of voting is the only solution to an election during Covid-19, Masing said there is not much of a choice for Sarawak if democracy is to be maintained.

“We have to learn to live with Covid-19. We must bear in mind that there are other countries that have their general elections in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic with no devastating impact.

“Just be smart in carrying out our jobs,” said Masing who is also the Baleh assemblyman. ā€” DayakDaily
