KUCHING, Sept 2: Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi is questioning Parti Sarawak Bersatu president Wong Soon Koh on whether he is aware of Kapit’s location and how far it is from the source of the recent logjam on the Baleh River.

Making reference to Wong’s statement published in a local newspaper today, Nanta dismissed the former’s claim as reported in the newspaper.

“In the statement, Wong had claimed that Kapit Parliamentary constituency is also part of the affected areas of the Ulu Baleh logjam incident that occurred recently.

“As Kapit MP, I vehemently dismiss Wong’s claim as reported in the newspaper.

“For the record, the boundary of the Kapit Parliamentary constituency is located far away from the actual site of the source of the logjam,” said Nanta, who is also Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister in a statement posted on his social media page today.

Such inaccuracy of Wong’s “knowledge” or “no-knowledge” of the incident and most of all, Wong’s understanding of the the areas in Kapit Division showed clearly that Wong has little understanding of the rural areas, especially Kapit Division, Nanta added.

It was also Nanta’s assertion that Wong should know better about the rural areas in Kapit Division as Wong had been a minister in the Sarawak Cabinet for a very long time before leaving in 2019.

Nanta further expressed surprise that Wong, who hails from Sibu, a town close to Kapit, knows little about Kapit.

“I put it that he had little care for Kapit in all those years, when he was in position to help Kapit. Just ask him how often did he visit Kapit when he was a senior leader in the State,” said Nanta.

Nanta said many in the districts of Kapit and Song barely remember Wong’s occasional visits which involved Wong meeting his former party Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) branch officials and members.

“No one can identify nor remember his (Wong’s) deeds for the two districts.

“With that, I hope Wong will be more careful in the future before he trumps up such wild allegations,” said Nanta. — Dayakdaily
