KUCHING, July 2: The Ministry of Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development (Manred) has set aside RM1.5 million to buy backlog products from farmers and fishermen during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

Its Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the previous allocation of another RM1.5 million has been spent and the fund would be replenished to help local producers through the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The backlog of products happens not only during the current MCO, but also in the previous ones.

“The government is helping these producers by buying their products through the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and the Area Farmers Organisations,” he said after handing over fruit baskets to frontliners at the Indoor Stadium Vaccination Centre here today.

Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, said the Sarawak government after purchasing these backlog products, would either sell them in the markets or donate them.

He also said the Ministry would continue to assist the local farmers and fishermen through these tough times. — DayakDaily
