KUCHING, May 15: A man who ridiculed the police on social media was given a two-day remand.

The 46-year-old male suspect was brought before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi by Investigating Officer Mohd Syuhairi Naufal Chang and was given a two-day remand to assist police in investigations.

The suspect had uploaded a photo of a traffic officer carrying out his duties enforcing the speed limit at Jalan Tun Jugah with the caption “this is the most stupid pdrm i ever see” on May 13 on his Facebook account. His posting drew comments such as “stupid gov and stupid stuff”, “minister corruption too much” and other comments criticising the ministers and PDRM as well as the use of foul language.

He surrendered himself at IPD Kuching on May 14 after learning that a police report had been made against his act and that the police were hunting for him.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998.

The suspect was represented by Counsel Michael Kong. —DayakDaily
