TYT’s 85th birthday celebration to be held on smaller scale in line with Phase 3 NRP

A special performance by Nada Persona Sarawak under the supervision of Sarawak Arts Council (SAC) is scheduled to be held during the celebrations.

KUCHING, Oct 7: His Excellency Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmuh’s 85th birthday celebration this year will be held on a smaller scale in compliance with the National Recovery Plan’s (NRP) standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) in a statement today said among the main attractions for the three-day event of the Official Ceremony this year are the Main Honor Guard parade that will be conducted by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), followed by a performance from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Band, Ceremonial Cannon Firing in the Sarawak River Bank area, and also a ‘fly by’ conducted by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

“This year’s celebration will be held on a smaller scale and in full compliance with the existing SOPs as Sarawak is in Phase 3 of the NRP,” it said.


Today, the rehearsal session for the ceremony that was held at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building in Petra Jaya went smoothly and was witnessed by Assistant Minister of Native Laws and Customs Datuk John Sikie Tayai, assistant ministers (Rural Electricity) Datuk Liwan Lagang, and Assistant Minister for Education, Science and Technological Research, Dr Annuar Rapaee.

The ceremony will also be enlivened with a special performance by Nada Persona Sarawak which symbolises the cultures of various races in the state.
