Khairul Akmal Sueib, 37, pleaded guilty to a charge read by the interpreter in front of Sessions Court Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi.

According to the charge, he was accused, along with an accomplice who is still at large, of committing a group robbery using a sword against a 22-year-old female counter attendant at a budget hotel in Kenyalang Park, Jalan Tun Razak around 2.23am on November 21, 2022.

They robbed RM394 in cash from the hotel and a smartphone belonging to the victim.

They were charged under Section 397 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, which, upon conviction, can carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and can be subjected to caning.

Based on the facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant, who was working, was approached by two men who demanded money. They also threatened to harm the complainant if she refused to hand over the money while one of them brandished a sword.

Out of fear, the complainant then handed over RM394 and a smartphone.

The accused and his accomplice then fled the scene. The estimated loss incurred was around RM794.

A police report was filed by the complainant, leading to the arrest of the accused on November 26, 2022, around 11.30 pm in Kampung Sungai Maong.

Investigations revealed that the accused, along with an accomplice who is still at large, had committed the armed robbery. Additionally, the complainant’s identification positively implicated the accused in the offence based on Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage.
