Man found dead on electrical transformer platform in Serian

SERIAN, April 13: A man was found dead on an electrical transformer platform in Kampung Semungkoi A, Jalan Serian-Sri Aman, here on April 11.

A spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Center (PGO) said they received a report on the incident at 10.25am.

He said six members from the Serian Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were despatched to the scene for rescue work.


“Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that the electric current was still active and it was unsafe to perform rescue duties.

“The fire brigade waited for Sarawak Energy to arrive and confirm the situation is completely safe before the work to retrieve the victim’s body continued,” the spokesperson said in a statement on April 11.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and his body was then handed over to the police for further action.

Meanwhile, Serian District Police Chief DSP Aswandy Anis said the identity of the victim has not been confirmed, but he is believed to be a local.

“This man is believed to have trespassed into the transformer area based on the discovery of hardware such as screwdrivers, saws, and spanners.

“However, further investigations are still underway and we call on anyone who has lost a family member to come to the Serian Police Station for the identification of the body,” said Aswandy in a statement regarding the incident.

It is understood the case has been classified as sudden death while further investigations are underway. — DayakDaily
