Three men arrested over alleged cable theft in Kampung Siol Kandis

KUCHING, Oct 3: Police arrested three local men aged between 30 and 41 over the alleged theft of cables along the roadside at Kampung Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya here.

Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the three suspects were arrested by a team from the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division (D4) at Kampung Pulo Hulu, Kuching, at about 11.20am yesterday (Oct 2).

He said investigations found that the incident occurred at about 10.20am on the same day, when the suspects allegedly cut the cables using a cutter before dragging them to a house in Kampung Pulo Hulu using a motorcycle.

“The suspects then cut the cables into smaller sections,” he said in a statement today.

Police checks also found that all three suspects had previous criminal records.

Urine screening conducted on the suspects also returned positive results for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Alexson urged members of the public with information related to the incident to contact investigating officer Sjn Mancha Gubak at 019-5958260, the Kuching District Police headquarters operations room at 082-244444, or the nearest police station.
