Man fined RM3,300 for dropping off drugs at quarantine hotel

KUCHING, Aug 2: A man who dropped off a food package containing methamphetamine at a designated Covid-19 quarantine hotel was fined RM3,300 by the Magistrate’s Court here.

Eric Nathaneal Dickens, 27, pleaded guilty to the charge framed before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura binti Wan Ali.


The magistrate sentenced him to a fine of RM3,300 or in default to six months’ imprisonment.

The accused was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.

He was charged with possessing 0.26 grammes of methamphetamine, at the goods inspection counter outside a hotel here which was designated as a Covid-19 quarantine centre, at about 6pm on April 18, 2021.

According to the facts of the case, when the police and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) personnel on duty at the quarantine centre checked the food package that the accused had delivered which was meant for one of the hotel’s occupants, they discovered the substance believed to be syabu in two small boxes labelled as potato crips.
