KUCHING, June 20: A man was arrested after attempting to bribe the police during ‘Op Benteng Covid’ at Kampung Entubuh, Tebedu on Saturday morning.

Battalion 11 of General Operation Forces (PGA) had gone to the suspect’s premise around 11am as the site was believed to be a transit point for illegal immigrants (PATI) to enter Sarawak.

“A lot of items which belong to the Indonesian were found at the suspect premises as the suspect was tasked to take care of it,” Commander of the Battalion 11 of PGA, SAC Mancha Anak Ata said in the press release.

“The suspect later attempted to bribe the police by offering RM500 to prevent himself from getting arrested,” Mancha added.

According to Mancha, he said that the suspect was handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Committee and will be investigated under Section 17(B) Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

“PGA will continue to held ‘Op Benteng Covid’ at suspected transit centres around the border to prevent more PATI from entering the state in order to control the COVID-19 spread,” he said.—DayakDaily
